Prototyping

Here's a video that I recorded of the engine thus far. There isn't any artwork in this yet, so it is very basic.
Take-aways:

  • 1000 Bullets are being fired
  • Over 2000 individual map pieces
  • 6000 clouds being rendered
  • Parrallax managed automatically
  • Zooming in and out is allowed (and makes for a neat effect)

Enjoy:

PS - video seems to have uploaded poorly. I'll try to get something better up later.

New Game

3/21/2010 8:30 PM

Currently, the studio is working on a new game. This new game will be a type of side-scrolling shooter/platformer. It will also have some RPG elements. We've been toying with the concept and story for the better part of the past year, but have been sidetracked by other small games and real work. However, it's time to get down to business!

Progress is slow right now because we are still working on the core engine. However, I will be posting concept art over the next few weeks as I work on it. Here's the first enemy concept:

World War Game

Introducing a new game to the masses! This game is a strategy based game that enables multiple people to play against each other.

The game play is pretty straight forward. You start with a barracks which gains troops. With those troops you can move around and occupy other territories. On those territories you can build one of four buildings:

Barracks - Accrues troops and can hold more troops.
Towns - Accrues money.
Commands - Provides additional actions per turn.
Walls - Provides defense and can hold more troops.

Each building can be upgraded. Upgrading costs money and takes time (measured in turns). While a building is upgrading it stops providing it's resources, with the exception of walls.

In order to move troops or build buildings, you spend your "actions." Actions are given at the start of each turn and do not accrue between turns. If you do not use the actions, you lose them. Command buildings provide additional actions per turn.

Some things to note:
1. Any unbuilt territory with no troops on it goes back to being unoccupied on the next turn.
2. If you attack with enough troops (half the troops garrisoned at the defender, up to 50) you will downgrade the building.
3. You can also upgrade your national defense and attack strengths. While upgrading, these are still fully effective.

Silver Arcade

There is another website that specializes in silverlight games, Silver Arcade.

Dot Killer was submitted and is finally posted there as well. Although it's an older build, it still gets Question Mark Games name out there a bit and possibly gets some feedback. You may also notice that the high score board has filled up as more people play the game.

If you'd like to see the game on Silver Arcade, click the link below:

Site now using standards - maybe

6/18/2009 8:19 PM

I just spent a bunch of time overhauling the layout of the site. It may appear the same (fingers crossed), however, it should now be more web standards compliant. What does this mean? Well, it means better compatibility across browsers.

The caveat is that not all web browsers are standards compliant. I've tested this site in Opera, Firefox, and IE8 and it renders correctly. Outside of these browsers you are on your own.

Try to bear with me as the site evolves.

Welcome to our new site!

Our new site is up and running!

We've also submitted our first game to the Dr. Dobb's Challenge. The game that we submitted was Dot Killer and you can find it in our Game's section. Feel free to play it and leave any feedback on our forum.

We plan on bringing out more Silverlight games over the next few monthes and feedback and ideas are always appreciated. Check back often for updates!

Thanks,
Kevin
